Job Description

Healthy Hearing is looking for an experienced front-end web developer who is focused, motivated, creative and fun. The front-end developer is responsible for expanding and improving the user interface for our hearing health website application (developed using CakePHP framework) that currently has 3 million visitors a year.

This is a full-time, telecommute (virtual) position. The individual in this role would work on a small, close-knit virtual team of highly-motivated and talented professionals, using their experience in HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript to grow a US-based website.

  • Develop front-end code consistent with the design and layout of our website branding guide
  • Develop wireframes and mock-ups for new designs and layouts
  • Develop and deliver front-end design assets that can be integrated into code
  • Create HTML and CSS for a given UI design mockup
  • Hook JQuery and Javascript to real data
  • Apply CSS to basic MVC views
  • Create graphics, icons and other visual design elements that meet modern user interface guidelines and standards
  • Participate in site audits, A/B testing and usability studies with final analysis and documentation, including building corrective course of action fixes based on Google Analytics, PPC funnel reports, WVO A/B testing or related platform, etc.
  • Optimize and refactor existing code to improve performance and reliability
  • Identify user requirements and translate them into design solutions
  • Assist with brainstorming, marketing and advertising strategies
  • Coordinate with outside agencies as needed to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Maintain technical knowledge by participating in continuing education activities

  • Expert - HTML5 / CSS3 / Sass
  • Expert - JavaScript, jQuery (AJAX)
  • Experience with browser compatibility, accessibility, SEO structure and speed optimization
  • Experience with Bootstrap or other responsive design library
  • Subversion or GIT/github
  • Familiarity with PHP and MVC frameworks
  • Demonstrable experience designing for e-commerce or data-driven web sites
  • Expert understanding of graphic design software and design production workflow, including how to take designs and repurpose them for use in other media
  • Understanding of how front-end code affects SEO and accessibility
  • Understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and solutions for websites as well as email campaigns
  • Understanding of best practices for UX/UI on desktop and mobile websites
  • Ability to code standards-compliant, browser-compatible and HTML5/CSS3 page layouts
  • Experience slicing production layout files and optimizing graphics for quality and speed
  • Experience working in a team environment with stakeholders, developers and other design professionals
  • Ability to accurately estimate project time & development requirements
  • Ability to document development approach and communicate with the team

Special requirements:

  • Company-paid overnight travel may be required up to 3-4 times a year for team and/or project meetings
